Equipment overview

The Alzmetall GS 1400/5-FDT is a gantry-style 5-axis machining center combining Alzmetall's proprietary torque-drive spindle technology with the structural advantage of machine castings produced in their own foundry. Over 210,000 drilling machines of accumulated manufacturing experience inform the design of every GS-series machining center.

Axis travels of 1,200 x 1,300 x 800 mm accommodate workpieces up to 3,000 kg including fixturing, with a 14,000 RPM spindle using HSK-100T interface and a 64-tool magazine. The Siemens SINUMERIK 840D control handles simultaneous 5-axis machining including milling, drilling, turning, and grinding operations in a single setup.

Alzmetall's own foundry produces the machine base castings with optimized rib structures for superior vibration damping characteristics compared to outsourced castings. This vertical integration of the foundry process gives Alzmetall direct control over material quality, wall thickness optimization, and the internal damping properties that ultimately determine the machine's achievable surface finish and tool life performance.
